My First Blog Post
The purpose of this blog is to share my ideas about how to restore and maintain health through optimal nutrition. Over the years I have evolved a diet that works very well for me and for most of the people who are willing to follow it. The way I eat is quite simple, though radical in that I’ve eliminated many foods
I eat only animal foods, vegetables, and occasionally a little wild or brown rice, or toasted buckwheat. My animal foods include grassfed meat, wild seafood, eggs, as well as raw milk, cream and butter from grassfed animals. My vegetables are mostly big green salads with onions, olives, dulse (seaweed) and some cooked greens. I use olive oil and raw apple cider vinegar on my salads, and lots of raw butter on everything else. Most of my food is raw or very lightly cooked (including eggs, which are a great source of raw fat and protein). I braise my meat on a grill, but it’s raw most of the way through.
That’s really about it. In the summer I have some berries, but aside from that, no other fruit. I include no bread or any other flour products, sweets of any kind, or nightshades (potatoes, peppers, eggplants or tomatoes). Nothing except what I have described above, and food supplements I will begin discussing below.
I do this because when I eat anything else, my body gives me disagreeable and unmistakable signals. I’m not alone; like me, many of my patients over the years have recovered and maintained their health only with this simple program.
I believe the reason this works so well is because my diet closely mimics the primitive, pre-civilization hunter-gatherer diet to which human beings adapted over the long course of evolution. While raw milk, cream and butter were not a part of that diet, I’ve found that these foods work well for me and for most people, and provide essential fats hard to get enough of in most animal foods available today.
I complement the diet with several food supplements of critical importance. These include our organ and gland supplements and cod liver oil on a daily basis, in addition to others I’ll discuss over time.
When people follow this program carefully, most health problems “mysteriously” disappear. This is really no mystery. Humans are designed to function in health when the natural human diet is carefully followed.
I’m interested in your comments, but I don’t wish to debate what constitutes a good diet and what doesn’t. This blog really is for people who are interested in what I have learned in a lifetime of studying health and diet and would like to build their health using the disciplined regime of diet and supplements I have followed for many years.
Here are a few examples of how I eat. In the morning, I might have six or eight eggs – “shooters,” one at a time, raw in a glass, Rocky style. An alternative might be a couple of glasses of raw milk, or eggs and milk blended together. Around midday, celery and carrot sticks and pemmican; or cooked greens and leftover lightly baked salmon. In the evening, a big green salad, followed in an hour or so by a big steak with butter and a couple of ounces of raw cream for dessert.
A lot of people reading this will think raw meat and raw eggs are both dangerous and unappetizing, which is certainly the conventional wisdom. I do my best to secure my food from the best naturally raised sources, but there is always a certain risk when eating raw food, whether it is sushi, an undercooked steak, or lettuce or spinach. I believe the benefits are well worth the risk, which I consider minimal. As for unappetizing – well, one gets used to things. I’m willing to go to any length to maintain my health.
In future postings, I’ll respond to some of your comments and elaborate on my diet and supplements. I’ll write more about the ideas behind my diet and why I’ve learned to avoid many common foods and eat most of my food raw. Eating this way requires a certain attitude and frame of mind, and I may write about that too, and why I think food provides the building blocks the rest of life is built upon.

wELCOME BACK. HAVING GOUT PROBLEMS, EVERYTHING ABOUT PURINES SEEMS TO LEAD AWAY FROM YOUR DIET, WHICH BROUGHT MY WEIGHT FROM 185 TO 165. I STOPPED KEFIR AND NOW JUST DRINK THE RAW MILK, RAW EGG WHITES AND GREENS. THE FLARE CAME FROM BEER AFTER THE ANNUAL PHYSICAL EXERTION OF SHEARING ALPACAS. I HAD BEEN ENJOYING HEART,LIVER, GRASSFED BEEF/BISON, ORGAN DELIGHT CAPSULES. i THINK THE COMMERCIAL ICE CREAM IS PROLONGING THIS FLARE, SO THAT HAS NOW STOPPED.
YOURCOMMENTS PLEASE!!
Well, Joe, please reread my post about diet. Think discipline – you can’t have beer, ice cream, and health. I suggest you use our Smooth Operator formula and Doc’s Friendly Flora, these should be helpful.

Dr. rON:
HELLO. DO YOU HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE TREATING MASTOCYTOSIS? I HAVE FRIENDS WHOSE 3.5 YEAR OLD CHILD HAS HAD THE SKIN DISORDER SINCE APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS OF AGE. MY FRIENDS HAVE BEEN TO EVERY TYPE OF PRACTITIONER OF WESTERN MEDICINE OUT THERE, WITH LITTLE TO NO SUCESS FOR THEIR CHILD, AND THEY ARE EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED/DIS-HEARTENED.
I HAVE BEEN A “FOLLOWER” OF YOUR ADVICE AND THAT OF THE WESTIN PRICE FOUNDATION FOR LONG ENOUGH NOW TO BELIEVE/UNDERSTAND THE LINK BETWEEN HEALTH AND DIET. DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC DIETARY AND/OR SUPPLEMENT SUGGESTIONS FOR TREATING MASTOCYTOSIS?
THANK YOU!
Dr. Ron,
For people who are unwilling or unable to eat meat do you think that good quality raw milk can serve as an adequate substItute, Or are there just certain things in meat that you can’t get from raw milk?
is the fermented cod liver oil ok for someone with a history of a candida overgrowth I found out I had candida with a Gi test my worst ofenders were;cheese even the raw stuff ,milk .sweet fruit, wine and nuts I just dont eat grains or starch so i dont know if they would bother me but I would like to know if i can get the fermented oil in your opinion.also if I take liver and eat organs can I give up eating meat and just eat fatty rare or raw fish and still be healthy, saturated fat other than the kind in eggs and fish is really hard for me to digest.
Hi dr. ron, sorry about the capiTAL LETTERS, FOR SOME REASON I Cannot change it to lower case. I was wondering whether you think taking pregnenolone and dhea is necessary if you have very low levels of cortisol and dhea. thanks!
Warmly, Melina
i was just watching some of youe blog videos and enjoying them a lot! THAT IS NEAT TO SEE YOU GIVING YOUR CAT ORGAN DELIGHT BECAUSE MY CAT LOVES IT TOO! I HAVE BEEN GIVING HIM SOME FOR AWHILE NOW. hIS INSTINCT IS INTACT TOO. MY DAD LIVED IN OREGON AROUND THE SAME TIME AS YOU AND I THINK HE IS AROUND YOUR AGE. DID YOU EVER MEET A CAMERON POWERS OR HIS GIRLFRIEND AT THE TIME bONNIE CAROL?
No, I never met your dad, Melina. Sounds like your cat and mine have something in common though. Have you tried Organ Delight yourself?
DHEA can be helpful, particularly as you get older. It helps the body make hormones in a natural way. I prefer it to pregnenolone because DHEA is a precursor to so many other hormones and helps the body make them as needed. We have an additive-free DHEA (not on website) that I often recommend.
Chey, fatty fish like wild salmon is a good alternative for the other animal foods you mention, along with liver and organs and eggs. As far as candida goes, fermented Cod Liver Oil will be helpful for you, very good. If you eliminate all carbs except those in green vegetables your candida should clear up just fine. I suspect rare red meat will be fine for you then too.
David, that is a good question. Certainly one could do will with the only animal food being grassfed raw milk, it is such a complete food. But I believe it is optimal to include at least some grassfed meat. There are proteins – enzymes – present in raw meat that are unique to meat and I think we do best when we have them in our diet. But if one chooses to eat no meat, then grassfed raw dairy is a reasonable and healthy substitute.
Adam, I suggest your friends read my blog post and follow the dietary/supplement suggestions there. Many intractable diseases respond dramatically to my diet. For more detailed individual suggestions your friends would need to consult with me so I can evaluate the child’s condition.
Looks great, Chey, I will try it but without the lemon juice (I eat no citrus, it aggravates me!).
Dr. Ron,
What do you think about a good quality dehydrated raw wheat grass (http://www.amazinggrass.com/organic-wheat-grass-powder.html) drink in place of the big salad as outlined in your recommended diet? I ask because my wife is pregnant and she has become very finicky about eating certain thinkgs such as salad, and what she does eat is not much. I think because of her short stature everything is being pushed up making it hard to eat much of anything. If the wheat grass drink would be a good substitute I think she would have an easier time with that.
Thank You
Lyme disease last july, since then experiencing joint pain, shoulder and arm muscle tightening. my therapist recomended your cod liver oil, what else should I be doing to help with these issues? I do not have a good source of healthy animal products, but eat mostly fresh veg and fruit and fish with some meats. I do eat homemade soy yogurt daily, according to your video you called this poison. what about probiodics to replace normal flora after antibiodics for lyme?
Susan, I suggest you read my first blog post for dietary advice. As for soy, you might read up on that at http://www.westonaprice.org. A good probiotic would certainly be important for you; I suggest our Doc’s Friendly Flora in liberal dosage. Also Pancreas capsules, which many people find helpful. Diet is critical for Lyme though, it is a very tough problem and I have to be very careful about exactly what I eat in order to stay well; I have had Lyme for seven years.
Hi dr ron,
I am worried about ordering your products during the very warm months of the year. I can imagine the parcels being shipped in very hot trucks and sitting in the hot sun. what is your opinion on that?
dR. rON:
mY DAUGHTER SAM IS ONE YEAR OLD. SHE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE STREP VIRUS LAST WEEK. THE AMOXICILLIN PRESCRIBED WE THOUGHT HAD WORKED. iT HAS COME BACK IN FULL FORCE AGAIN. sHE HAS CIRCLE LIKE SPLOTCHES ALL OVER HER THIGHS AND IS SPREADING TO HER CHEST AND ARMS. eVEN STARTING TO GET A LITTLE HORSE IN HER CRIES AGAIN TOO.
wHAT DO YOU DO FOR VIRUSES….LET IT RUN ITS COURSE? is THE AMOXICILLIN OR oMNICEF (WHICH I AM SURE THEY WILL TRY TO GET US TO TAKE TODAY) EVEN NECESSARY?
THANK YOU
sHANNON
How much Kombuca can I drink and how much Kefir. do I need clo in the summer
I don’t recommend kombucha because it is made with sugar. Kefir made raw from quality raw milk is great for most people in whatever quantity is desired. I take CLO all summer, it is full of important nutrients in short supply in the rest of the diet, besides the vitamin D.
Shannon, see the doctor who prescribed the amoxicillin about this and you must make your own decision. If you would like to consult with me, I will then learn the details and make appropriate suggestions. Please call our office for an appointment if you would like to do this. This is not something to attempt to treat via the Internet.
Kathryn, trucks do get hot but not beyond 120 degrees or so, and this does not damage products properly sealed in airtight bottles.
can I get off blood pressure meds, I have high I know they are soooo bad for you
is drinking raw milk better than drink ing kefir, I drink Kefir 6 days a week and I drink 3-4 cups per day, one day a week I drink raw milk. my kefir is made from raw milk
Dr. ron:
On your website, you specifically state that “very thorough” documentation exists about the success of Dr. Max Gerson in regards to his cancer treatments.
Where is it?
american cancer.org states that There have been no well-controlled studies published in the available medical literature that show the Gerson therapy is effective in treating cancer.
I am a huge believer in Gerson and I have nothing to show the “unbelivers”?
thanks as always
shannon
Dr. Gerson’s 1959 book A Cancer Therapy, Results of Fifty Cases, presents all the proof any reasonable person could ask for. Many other books have been written about Gerson’s work. The conventional cancer organizations have no interest in this or any other natural treatments; they are tools of the drug industry.
Kefir is just fine, Dianna, as long as it is made carefully to protect the enzyme content. An advantage of kefir is that it is much lower in carbohydrates than milk itself.
Dianna, many people I have worked with have found that in following a careful diet and supplements program, their need for medications has disappeared.
I am starting to use your products and hope to see a difference in my facial skin. How do you protect the enzyme in Kefir, I use raw milk. Would it be better to just drink the raw milk ..Thanks Dr Ron
Dianna, kefir that is made from raw milk without using excess heat should be rich in enzymes, even richer than the milk itself. It is a matter of personal preference to use homemade kefir, or simply the plain raw milk. Either is fine!
do you have a product for yeast infection, I am experiencing this and will not go to doctor for fear of antibiotics
Dianna, our Herbal Formula #4 is helpful, and should be used in conjunction with careul diet and Iodine Complex.
Can you eat real yogurt everyday, wondering if this caused my yeast infection
Dr Ron i wanted your opinion on toe nail fungus, i am a male 175lbs 7% bodyfat, very very active, my diet is pure paleo grass fed meats 70% of the time while eating pastured raised chicken and eggs, no fruit, no nuts, no sugar, i cook with grass fed butter or xtra virgin coconut oil, i eat only green vege green beans, broccoli, peppers, spinach, cauilflower, brussel sprouts, etc. no below the ground veges, i eat pure wild salmon twice a week and wild shrimp, i do eat red cabbage, i also drink coffee black.
i appreciate any feedback you may offer
Jeremy
Dr. Ron, i just purchased some of your products, one of which was the iodine complex. after seeing the percent of daily value listed for just one caplet (8333%) i was wondering if i could take just part of a capsule each day. I was thinking about just taking about 1/8 capsule. are the capsules formulated so that a small part of a capsule would contain the same proportion of ingredients as the whole capsule. Thanks for your reply, stacy
Stacy, you could do that, the ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Please see our webpage about Iodine Complex for a discussion of dosage.
Jeremy, I don’t know why you have this problem, but I suggest you use our Herbal Formula #4, and apply hydrogen peroxide (available from a drugstore) topically.
Depends on the yogurt. The only really good yogurt is made from raw milk as per the instructions in the back of my book The Untold Story of Milk, and should be eaten plain (unsweetened).
what are your thoughts on MRT tests or “food sensitivity testing” mine cost me $400 and it told me to stay away from healthy things like salmon, I already think it was a waste of money, but I would like a second opinion before I give up my favorite foods to see if my problems subside.
Chey, I don’t have much use for most allergy testing. The results are usually misleading and not helpful in figuring out what is best to eat. Your body is more sensitive than any allergy test. The trick is learning how to read your body’s signs.
Dr. ron,
3 things:
1. I am doing a partial gerson therapy now (coffee enemas and juicing)
2. 1st thing i noticed was that my toenail fungus is starting to dissapear. i am esctatic about this.
3. the most common sickness that i need medicine for now is winter cold’s. I usually dope up on nyquil (to sleep past the eye watering and itching) or municef for the congestion.
The fasting you taught me works….by the second day. What do you do for the cold symptoms to sleep that 1st night?
Thanks,
Shannon
if you were to get sick from undercooking beef….how do you treat yourself?
Dr. Ron, Ihave pain ,that has been ongoing for 3.5 years, in my right hip joint. I am considering weather to take cod liver oil for this and came across your product, the fermented oil. Will it be of any help in relieving the pain associated with this problem.
Hi Dr. ron,
i just wanted to tell you how grateful i am for your article and blog about your diet. i am 22 years old and after 9 years i have finally been diagnosed with lyme. following your diet is beginning to make my days a lot easier than they’ve been in a very long time. thank you.
maryanne
in your first book you said butter and oils are too concentrated of a food source and i feel better when i do not eat them but you seem to have changed your thoughts, also I tried your cod liver oil and my gallbladder hates that too! it is so weird I have no problem digesting fatty whole foods just oil even one tsp of oi bothers me do you know of any other people with this same problem?
No Chey, I did not say that in my first book. I have always used butter and olive oil. As for why you can’t handle them, I do not have an answer, I would have to evaluate your situation in a consult to try to understand this. I have known a couple of people with this problem but it is rare. Sorry I cannot answer this for you
Thank you, Maryanne. I will be writing more about Lyme and associated problems soon. My diet will help but it is usually not the entire answer, and I will be addressing other issues in a blog post soon.
I cannot predict the future, Frank. I don’t know what is causing your pain. But very often a liberal intake of our CLO has alleviated pain in joints for people. See my blog for dietary advice on this. I also suggest our Cal Mag Hydroxyapatite and Glucosamine-Chondroitin-MSM.
